Can Your Chinese Zodiac Change Your Luck?
Unlike the western horoscope system, the Chinese Zodiac, or “Shengxiao,” assigns one of 12 animals to the year of your birth. In Chinese Mythology, the Jade Emperor, a major deity in Chinese mythology, decided to create a zodiac to measure time and invited all the animals to participate in the Great Race. The first twelve animals to cross the finish line would become part of the zodiac.
The Rat won by using its cleverness to ride on the Ox's back and jump ahead at the last moment. The Ox, hardworking and steady, came second. The other animals followed, with various stories associated with their journeys, in the order they reached the finish line: 1. The clever Rat, 2. the strong Ox, 3. The Tiger—a fast swimmer but struggled against the river’s current, 4. The lucky Rabbit, who couldn’t swim but hopped from stone to floating logs but nearly drowned, till the benevolent number 5, the Dragon (who was delayed by saving a near-by village from a drought) blew a log his way to help him get over, so he just beat the dragon. The Snake, number 6, hid in the hoof of the horse and popped out right before the finish line, startling the Horse and putting him in seventh position. The Goat, 8 and Monkey 9 and Rooster 10 worked together to find a raft for them all to get across. The Dog, number 11, claimed he wanted to clean his fur off in the river and that slowed him down. The last to cross was the Pig, who stopped for a meal and slept a bit before finishing it.
Why no cat? Legend has it that his then-friend the Dog was supposed to wake him up for the race but either forgot or deliberately made him miss the race…. Hence cats and dogs are enemies to this day!
SpinMahika bases your lucky numbers on your accurate zodiac sign. Don’t believe those Chinese restaurant placemats that oversimplify it by saying 1997 is year of the Ox because if you were born before February 7th in 1997, you’re in the year of the Rat! Spin does it right!
